Alastair Nathan Cook MBE was born December 25, 1984 is an English international cricket player. He is a left-handed opening batsman who plays county cricket for Essex and international cricket in England, where he is their ODI captain.

While touring the Caribbean with the ECB National Academy, was a chef called up to the England team in India as a last-minute replacement for Marcus Trescothick and his debut with a century. Debuted as 21 years, took Cook to become the youngest Englishman to reach 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000 and 5000 Test runs, making centuries in his first Test matches against India, Pakistan, Western India and Bangladesh.

Cook's musical acumen led to his being awarded a scholarship to Bedford School, when he was 13, also as a boarder. Meanwhile, educated at Bedford, he also learned to play piano and saxophone. However, the music darkened when the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) came to play against Bedford XI.

England's quarter-final exit from 2011 World Cup, stepped down from Andrew Strauss ODI captaincy and Cook was named his successor, despite not having in an ODI since the leading side in Bangladesh. Besides Cook's promotion was the nail bowler Stuart Broad was named captain for Twenty20 side and England went into the home series with Sri Lanka with different captains for each format of the game.
